Believe it or not, I have an opinion on pretty much everything. Ok, who am I kidding… I’m pretty sure we all do. Mine just tend to be vocalized more often than not. Sometimes though, those opinions are super helpful! For instance, my love for local, delicious food, and my egotistical desire to be a top Google-contributor have led me to find some fantastic restaurants around the world that I can’t help but share with others.

So as of this morning, I am an official Ooler owner.
Well, almost. Just waiting for it to arrive at my front door to begin my 90-day trial into blissful sleep. Since I don’t actually have the unit, I can’t tell you anything first-hand yet about using it, but I can share a bit more about why I decided to finally pull the trigger and buy one.
Why Spend $1000 on a Better Nights Sleep?
For starters, we spend about a third of our lives in bed, so a good night’s sleep is essential! And my decision was less a “me” decision as a “we” decision. See, my wife is a very particular sleeper. If conditions are not juuuust right, she has a heck of a time getting to sleep and staying asleep. One of those conditions is getting the bedroom as cold as humanly possible. Crank down the AC, and problem solved right?
Unfortunately not.
First, to get it down as cold as she would like it, we would likely have to double our electricity usage. Not to mention I would be frozen out of the bedroom, since anything below 70 degrees and I start to shiver (I blame Arizona).
Add to that problem the fact that our memory foam mattress absorbs body heat, giving us both hot-sweats in the middle of the night, regardless of what the thermostat is set to.
Given this, our only viable solution was to change the bed, or make it cooler, somehow. And changing the bed wasn’t an option since it’s the first mattress we both finally could get a good night’s sleep in – hot sweats aside. (Writeup of that coming soon).
So, with yet another sweaty night behind us, in the blistering heat of an Arizona summer, I figured, what better time to give the Chili system a go.
I’m hopeful. And if things go as expected, we should be able to offset our nightly electricity usage, even with the Ooler system, by dialing the thermostat up a few degrees.
And for those wondering why I went with Ooler, as opposed to their older Chilipad, the idea of having a perfect bed-temp timed to each of our sleep cycles, in addition to it being a “silent” wakeup alarm, sounded too good to pass up.
